The park contains forest trails and family campsites with hot showers and modern washroom facilities. Operated by BC Parks, Ellison Park is just 20 minutes south of Vernon BC on Eastside Road. From Vernon, take 25th Avenue and Okanagan Landing Road past Paddlewheel Park along the Okanagan Lake shoreline. Camping reservations are recommended during peak season from May to August.
There are 71 campsites with vehicle parking allowed on site. Most of the Ellison campsites are large enough for a camper or trailer plus one or two tents. Use of firepits is allowed unless a fire hazard warning is in effect, and campers must bring their own firewood or purchase wood from the park facilitator. Free wood is no longer provided by BC Parks. Wildlife in the park most commonly includes the red ground squirrel, porcupines, chipmunk type critters, and deer which normally avoid the camping areas, and birds such as the black crow.
Swimming in Okanagan Lake at Ellison Provincial Park is very refreshing, as Okanagan Lake remains quite cool through the summer.
In the warmer shallow beach water, one can contract a non-serious rash known locally as duck fever. It is recommended that an oil based lotion be used prior to swimming at the beach and that visitors towel off thoroughly upon exiting the beach water. The itchy affliction is known at several beaches of the Okanagan including Kin Beach in Vernon, but following the recommendations properly will help avoid any problem. As you can see from these Ellison Park photos, there is no place more beautiful to swim anywhere in the Okanagan!
Okanagan Lake is one of the deepest lakes in the world, providing clean and exhilirating fun for every age group.
In the hot Okanagan summer vacation and travel season, the lake is a mecca for local residents and vacationers to unwind and celebrate the North Okanagan Valley's natural beauty and landscape.
During peak camping season families camping in Ellison Park can enjoy outdoor nature talks with park interpreters at the small amphitheatre. Adjacent to the amphitheatre is a playground and open field for children and families to play or relax in the beautiful North Okanagan.
Among places to travel in Canada and British Columbia, the North Okanagan enjoys some of the highest praise and it is no wonder that the area outpaces the provincial average for population growth. Driving directions to the park are simple. From Vernon BC travel south on 25th Avenue, which shortly becomes Okanagan Landing Road. Continue on Okanagan Landing Road winding along the lakeshore and it will then become Eastside Road. This route will take you all the way to Ellison Provincial Park which is located on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, between Okanagan Landing and Cedar Grove.
