The Spallumcheen BC population is roughly 5,000 residents and employment is largely in the farming, manufacturing and health care fields. Because Spallumcheen BC is mostly agricultural it plays a significant part in the annual Interior Provincial Exhibition which is hosted by the City of Armstrong BC on its dedicated IPE Fairgrounds.
Spallumcheen Municipality was incorporated in 1892 on the site of present day Armstrong, prior to the existence of Armstrong BC as a city. The first settlement was called Landsdowne and became the economic center of the valley at the location of the Okanagan Railway's Armstrong Station which still stands. Landsdowne Avenue remains in Spallumcheen just a few kilometres north and is a main entry into north Spallumcheen BC Canada from Highway 97.
Spallumcheen is an Okanagan Nation word which means "beautiful valley". The valley is characterized by pine forests, salmon spawns, farming and agriculture, and a rural western lifestyle including horse and trail riding among other popular passtimes. BC farms and ranches abound in the Spallumcheen Valley of British Columbia's North Okanagan Region.
